Selecting your Plates – What you should consider when selecting your plates

There are three major types of pad printing plates (also known as Cliches).
These are:

Photopolymer

Most popular type, used for short and medium runs. Available in tap-water and alcohol developing chemistries. Ideal for customer in-house plate processing.  Excellent printing and graphics reproduction characteristics. Used on all gradient and Process Color work. Work on open ink well and closed cup systems.

Thin Steel

Used in medium and long runs. Very hard steel surface, long wear. Excellent printing characteristics. Factory processed only, requiring specialized processing.

Laser Engravable

Used with Direct to Plate Laser Imaging Systems. Magnetic metal backing. Used in short to medium runs. Excellent printing characteristics. Work on open ink well and closed cup systems.
